Zoe Downing

Zoë Riley uses art to navigate all aspects of life. Art making is a vital way of continually coming to know herself and the world. She processes her experience of what it is to be human through creating, and connects with the viewer through the finished work. Subject matter often includes scenes from nature, the figure, and abstraction, but is open to anything else that she feels compelled to explore.

Zoë currently lives in a converted school bus in Colorado where she draws inspiration from the incredible environment surrounding her. When she’s not making art or working at the restaurant, she also loves practicing yoga, reading, and enjoying the abundance of inspiration that life has to offer.

Really beautifully done. The warm tones in the face are nicely balanced with the background shadows, earrings and shirt. I also love that you chose to paint someone from a FaceTime call.

To me, the expression portrays what I usually feel as a bit of awkward self awareness from seeing myself in the screen while talking to someone else. It's a distraction that I wish we had the option to turn off.

Lovely work!
