Rose-Colored Spectacle

I have incredibly mixed feelings about social media- and those feelings inspired this painting. On one hand, it's a wonderful way to stay connected with the world and sometimes it's okay to be entertained by it.

That being said, it's also difficult not to compare my life, my art with all the other lives and art out there. It becomes an echo chamber where we can make a spectacle of ourselves in order to be seen and heard. Social media isn't reality, it's a filtered lens that alters what our lives are really about. In essence, our lives can be perceived as a "Rose Colored Spectacle" something to be looked at rather than to be experienced at its fullest.
