I am so drawn to painting simple objects like this! There is a familiarity in this subject matter that is somehow freeing for me as a painter. A humble cup gives me permission to loosen up my brushstrokes and think more abstractly. It is truly joyful to sit with an ordinary cup and lemon slice and turn them into something special and beautiful!
