Reginald Rousseau aka Big Art, is Haitian-born & Harlem-made, painter and mixed-media artist renowned for his dramatic figurative portrayals paintings promoting Black representations, shared values, attitudes, beliefs and practices and most recently Black masculinity and resiliency. With a background in Studio Arts and in Architectural Design, his artistic practice is highly experimental, conceptual and radical in association with the “avant-garde” art movement. The intent of his works is to give the world a window into Harlem’s diverse contemporary “homegrown” sub-cultures and aesthetics. Set amidst vibrant colors, juxtaposition lines, patterns, symbols and multilayered textures, his works tell stories, entertains, beautifies and raise awareness and often has a trenchant of social and or political edge. Currently, Reginald, creates, displays, exhibits and sells his works at the Underground Gallery + Studio, in Harlem, NY.
