New World Coming (The turning of the head)

A part of my Sankofa series, this piece is inspired by the metaphorical symbol of the Akpan people of Ghana. It is the belief that in order to move forward and plan for the future it is necessary to reveal, retrieve and understand the past. The series is a journey into the past through the self, a repossession of lost identity and a process of healing. This piece signifies the turning of the head, the first stage. One must first break to become whole.
