Long Time Friend
It started with a coffee, as so many rekindled friendships do. And led into something different and new. Lingering thoughts that stay in place. Who are you? What are you like? Why? It had been a decade since we last had any real conversation and yet you had grown into someone entirely new. How exciting, a new friend and an old one, all wrapped up together. I asked if I could paint her and we set it up and did. Months later I'm still working on it and haven't kept up maybe like I should.
So I do tend to wander into infatuations and being very curious about someone, this was someone I knew but not really. A million questions I want to ask but to not be needy or overwhelming. Layers upon layers to a person as they reveal who they are. There is something very strange and wonderful about this age where you can stay in touch with someone and be very happy for them and they can be happy for you. Some friends just fade away but there are always those who linger in your thoughts. Lovely people, my friends who let me paint them.
It's colors upon colors and just layered thoughts as I've worked through them in these past few months. If I were better about staying in touch, I probably could have resolved any of those questions but then how would I make this painting about lingering?

Wonderful, beautiful! Love the fluttering sense of movement in those marks, puts her just out of reach
