A Scarcely Glum Nocturne

This is a miniature painting, it is a 3in x 3in canvas framed inside a 9in x 9 in shadow box. The texture you see is actually from the canvas but gives it a great character.

This is my first ever nocturne! I am super thrilled to have painted one finally since I am so influenced by Whistler's nocturne landscapes . For this collection, I didn't use my own photographs but ones from photographers that let you paint from their photographs. It's a Facebook group and you are aloud to browse around and pick references as you like. I find it great help in getting me in painting other environments besides just New Jersey swamp lands. Since I didn't know how well I could paint a nocturne, I decided to use one of these free reference photos as a start. I must say..... I was quite impressed with the outcome and cannot wait to paint larger night landscapes in my future.
