Winter Waves is part of a series depicting relaxation near the water. As in most of my paintings,  I use subdued colors and loose brush strokes in order to create the mood  and feel of spontaneity. Art buyers may see a symbolic reference to prominent 20th century American painters like George Bellows, John Sloan, Isabell Bishop, and Edward Hopper.

12 x 16 original Urban Realism oil painting on panel by Darren Thompson.

Very nice painting, the brush strokes, do indeed, add life to the painting. I have also been dealing with a Hopper influence in my most recent work, although he has always been a subtle influence. The water is a compelling element.
