Colorful, enigmatic, and delicate lines dance across the surface of Lynne Taetzsch’s Fire And Ice. The rich and diffused greens and purples that underlay the picture lend it an organic and mysterious appearance that enhances and reflects the jungle-like mark-making atop it. The symphony of form and color that prance, twirl, and pirouette their way across the canvas evoke nature and music. Every virtuoso application of acrylic is gestural and dynamic, but their variation is pronounced. The long thick brushstrokes are complemented and highlighted by spindly, winding, and melodic lines of yellows, whites, reds, and blacks. Fire And Ice recalls the work of famed Cuban surrealist painter Wifredo Lam (I think surrealist is too narrow a designation for his work because, like Fire And Ice, it extends into so many different styles). Fire And Ice reminds me most of an ecosystem seen as a collection of little worlds working to support and enliven each other.
