Natalie Collette Wood

Wood’s work investigates the intimate relationship between home, nature, and spiritual environments through painting, collage, sculpture, and outdoor installation. Large-scale works create fanciful dreamscapes inspired The Bronx and the artists childhood growing up in Las Vegas. By gathering information from two places that are deeply sentimental to the artist  as a springboard to examine the decadence of the past and the sobering aspects of today’s economy and landscape. The work creates haunting spaces by pairing interior structures with chaotic landscapes to create disorientating environments that reflect the skewed way in which memory and history function. By creating and then deconstructing existing realties, Wood creates new worlds that are falling apart through their own façade and in a state of constant change. The work explores how urban and natural spaces interact and cohabitate together while celebrating the psychological and ever-changing dimensions of memory and physical space.

Born in Las Vegas, NV Natalie Collette Wood is a current artist-in-residence at The Andrew Freedman Home located in the Bronx. She earned an MFA from Herbert H. Lehman University, and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Solo  exhibitions include Splendour at Freight + Voulme Gallery, NY, NY (2019), Natural Phenomenon at Andrew Freedman Home, Bronx, NY (2018), Swallowed By Nature at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY (2016), Nothing Lasts Forever at the Andrew Freedman Home, Bronx, NY (2016), Futuristic Fossil: Natalie Collette Wood at the Chashama . Wood’s work has been included in exhibitions such as The AIM Biannual: Bronx Calling at The Bronx Museum of Art, Ornamenting Crime at Zürcher Gallery, NY, NY, The Hot House at Kathryn Markel Fine Art in Chelsea, and Freight + Volume Gallery in the Lower East Side. Woods work has also been featured in Vouge Italia, FLAUNT, Whitehot Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times Sunday Review.
