Melanie Cheung is an abstract artist based in Hamilton, Ontario. Through her work, she explores themes of human emotion using fluid, translucent layers of paint and mixed media. She often works intuitively, finding balance and a sense of calm through unique colour combinations and controlled poured techniques that allow imperfect textures to form. Her work seeks to create harmony between an innate personal struggle between wanting control and leaving things up to chance.

Previously, she trained and worked as a fashion and home textile product designer before pursuing art. Originally from Toronto, she received a Bachelor of Design in fashion design from Toronto Metropolitan University (Formerly Ryerson University). Melanie resided in Montreal for twelve years before moving to Hamilton in 2020, where she now lives, works as a graphic designer and paints from her home studio.
