Francene Levinson

Francene J. Levinson, Bainbridge Island, WA resident, was born in Brooklyn, N. Y. She received her BA 1966 and MA Art Ed 1969 while a student at Brooklyn College, NY. There, she created abstract color field paintings which were influenced by her professors, Ad Reinhardt, Philip Pearlstein, and a contemporary of theirs, Mark Rothko. This training was the foundation of her art career which includes fine art teaching, stone sculpturing, multi-modular paper sculpturing, and original abstract Techspressionist digital painting. Her original modular paper sculptures have been juried into many gallery and museum exhibitions throughout the USA and have earned many first place and best in show awards. She was honored to have her paper sculptures as part of the collection at Scripps Research Institute, Jupiter, FL, from 2009 through 2012. In addition,  she was also awarded First Place – Boca Raton Museum of Art, 2010 - Biennial, in Boca Raton, FL.In 2021, her Techspressionist digital painting was the singular selection to represent the USA, when the Art Dex International Competition awarded her 2nd place among 156 countries. Francene exhibited her digital art at several galleries in Portland, Oregon where she had lived with her family until moving to Bainbridge Island, Washington in Nov. 2021. She is proud to have been represented by the Portland Art Museum’s Rental Sales Gallery. Notably,her digital paintings were part of the “Defining Beauty” exhibition at the California Museum of Art at Thousand Oaks Aug. 2020 to Aug. 2021, and recently at The Southampton Art Center, NY  “Techspressionism: Digital and Beyond” April through July 2022. As an abstract digital Techspressionist painter, Francene enjoys sharing her original visual reflections of her emotions, thoughts, and reactions to the world’s state of being.
