I’m an oil painter. I began with urban sketching (watercolor and ink), acrylics, and mixed media. I eventually learned that the luminous quality of oil paint is my favorite medium, by far. I paint all sizes- from miniature works in Altoids tins, to much larger pieces, currently finishing a 24”x 36” master copy of John Singer Sargent’s Lady Agnew. I enjoy painting a little bit of everything- landscapes, figurative works, portraits, still lifes- and I think that practicing in all these genres strengthens the next. I’m inspired and influenced by Joaquin Sorolla, Issac Levitan, John Singer Sargent and contemporary landscape painter, Marc D’alessio.

Learning to think and see like a painter has opened up a whole new chapter in my life, and I feel incredibly lucky to have found my passion. Perhaps my university study abroad program at the Sorbonne in Paris (a semester of art and literature) years ago had a little something to do with all this? That beloved art class lay dormant in my subconscious for too long!

You can often find me painting at the beach “en plein air”, capturing all the local color: ocean waves and palm trees, as well as fishermen, surfers and families enjoying the exquisite little barrier island I live on in Melbourne Beach, Florida. Hope you enjoy my work!
