In Venice during the lockdown, my husband and I were able to spend a month painting and drawing in La Serenissima. In the square where we lived, I had fascinating conversations with the antiques dealer, which led me to imagine a young American woman from a small town, who discovers the nuance of fine glass for the first time. The dealer was not young, and he had hands distorted by arthritis, but he was very dapper and had wild, almost living hair. I cut the linoleum while I was in Venice. This is a sheet of rubber which is carved, and then I hand-print no more than 40 images off of the linolelum. So, edition of 40.
