This was a huge undertaking to draw because it was my first drawing of a lizard, but mainly because of the challenge it was going to be because of the hundreds and hundreds of scales, all ranging from small to large and each having their own life. What I mean by that is not every scale is the same and each has their own outline and own values and gradients of dark and light tones. I thought this was going to be easy at first because I thought of it as drawing pieces to a puzzle, but that couldn't have been farther from the truth. Just the scales around the eyes were unbelievably difficult and tedious to render because I have to make sure that every scale is true to form because this is what identifies the correct anatomical structure and that it does not look flat, but rather three-dimensional. I wanted to get the proper values also to achieve the realism and that was also a very tedious undertaking, but I believe I rendered everything to achieve the a very realistic lizard.
