In Greek mythology, Odysseus tells of the lotus-eaters who lived on the island of Djerba and ate the fruits and flowers of the aquatic lotus plant. The strong narcotics in the plant caused the lotus-eaters to sleep without a care of returning to their homes and families. My tale is of an infant and toddler who nursed to sleep day in and day out. Breasts, abstracted to mimic the lotus flowers, providing the soothing transition to peaceful rest.
