So what does one paint after a recent group gallery show where not a single painting of more than 120 works on display sold? I had done a rough drawing of a potential new painting called, "Falling Objects" where random objects were falling from the sky and splashing into a lake below. But when I got to drawing the sketch out onto canvas, I realized the enormity of my task as there were more than 30 objects that I would need to paint. I looked at the objects and then it hit me - I should do several of them by themselves, in a pop art setting. So the first one I chose was a garbage can, which somehow seemed fitting as my take on what sells and what doesn't. One man's trash is another man's treasure. The size of this painting and the neon pink background makes this one pop - and definitely qualifies it as a pop art painting!

Well man, I'm feeling the same way for different reasons. Art is odd it seems, and must have seasons. But it kind of feels like fishing, like a friend of mine had this "moon table" and went fishing whenever the moon table said it was optimal. Wish we had one of those for art.

Just wondering though...that color is not red, and it's not magenta, and it's not orange. It's like MagRorange. Very unique combination of colors. Love that. My background color for Oligarch was kind of like that, and I almost ran out! Especially nervous when I had to go back and repair something around the ladder, and all I had left was this little bit in some alum. foil. So I had to stretch it. You know how it is trying to "re-match" a color from scratch. Next to impossible.

By the way, this took me back to the Andy Warhol feel.

The color is actually called "Neon Pink", though it seems a lot more red than pink. I didn't do anything to enhance or change it but perhaps the 'hotness' of the color was too much for my iPhone to manage. I'm starting in on a second in this series - not of trash cans, but rather, simple, everyday objects that so many of us take for granted but that maybe I can open some eyes when viewed as a painting rather than just reality. Warhol has always been my favorite Pop Artist and when I play in that realm, it's fun to be mentioned in the same league as him so thanks!
