A bit of a minimalist piece with lots of texture. The name “William” in the title is just a placeholder name for anyone who endeavors to create. The constant internal battle of “how much of myself do I show and how much do I not?” comes up with almost all new works of art.

W.S. Cranmore transports the viewer by mesmerizing like connections to the organic nature of color palette use blending industrial strength shaping of geometrical complexity drawing  attention to the smallest of detail in human emotion embedded with passion for his work.

Told in thickly applied, loosely geometric passages of acrylic, W.S. Cranmore’s Aspects Of William is a window that obscures as much as it reveals. I love the generosity of Cranmore’s description. He does not claim ownership of the name but invites every viewer to see it through the lens of their own experience. Whether we want to or not, people will always project some of themselves into a work of art. We all see differently, think differently, and carry different emotional baggage, and it would be unreasonable to expect people not to bring some of themselves into their considerations. Sometimes (speaking for myself, at least), when vocalizing our opinion to others, we consciously try to repress some of the more personal feelings and memories a work can inspire so as not to reveal too much about ourselves. Cranmore creates a sympathetic space for our internal and external emotional communication because he positions himself as a fellow traveler and not a guide. Cranmore's inner conflict about self-expression mirrors the considerations of intimacy the viewer experiences. Ultimately our differences unite us; all share an experience because of our differences, not despite them.

Mr. Crowther,

I can’t tell you how honored I am for your critique of Aspects Of William. For an emerging artist such as myself it is inspiring to know there are those out there who get where I’m coming from. Thank you very much for taking the time, it is quite appreciated.

Regards,

W.S. Cranmore
