Our Hearts Beat as One

I created this in response to the civil unrest going on in America right now. Specifically after the death of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. I wanted to highlight the need for community and grieving in response to difficult events as well as create a symbol of strength. However, this has been a fight for liberty that has lasted over centuries.

The fist, painted to look like a graphic design, is a symbol of strength and resilience. A thorny rose represents the love and courage that one needs to fight for the rights of ourselves and others. The red at the bottom of the background represents the lives lost in the pursuit of liberty. The glowing heart transcends the violence and protests to show the unity and connection that we all have when the rights of one are encroached upon. For when the rights of one community are attacked, it is an attack on all communities regardless of race, gender, or sexuality. My hope is that this piece can serve as a powerful symbol one day to inspire others to fight for the civil rights of any community. It is through love and comradery that we are able to persevere.
