moons of earth
The texture comes from bits of robin's egg glued to canvas; colors include phthalo blue and light yellow. I used liquin, elmer's & quick dry white as an homage to the moon.

BTW, John, your commentary "What Is Painting, Anyway" is interesting. I noticed no credit is given for an author but I assume it's you? Thanks.

John. I am speechless. Except to say that I looked up Ed Ruscha.
And to say I didn't think this worked. THANK YOU.

Replete with masterfully blended pigment and thick impasto (partially curtesy of a robin’s egg! Almost as if Ed Ruscha made a try at gestural abstraction! I love it!), Judith Skillman’s moons of earth is an enigmatic and emotive composition of the first order. The tonal complexity of the underlying passages of oil defies verbal description. The diagonal movement of this richly painted backdrop coupled with its mysterious hues lays somewhere in-between a beautiful sunset and the still, opaque surface of a pond speckled with sunlight and lily pads. The enlivened and organically phantasmagoric foundation is complemented by spinning and gestural loosely circular swirls of white. These "moons" add a further dimension of fluidity to the composition and give the viewer distinct forms to focus on amid a sea of wonderful abstraction.
