Picture within a Picture
I’ve felt stuck, emotional and in my head all week. Sketched a lot but didn’t feel inspired enough to want to paint, or so I thought… I think it has to do with my negative self critic and buying into that.
I went into this with a completely different idea of a face. I think this is the epitome of expressionism as I let the idea evolve as I went further into the piece.
I call it picture within a picture because of the frames I made around the face and along the outside of the painting, emphasizing each within those frames. I made the face more pop art than usual mixed with neo expressionism.
Last but not least I used the deflated balloon to convey my fear and self critic being deflated and tied it to the bone of the neck to convey that I overcame that with creating the face that I did.
