Secret Cove Beach, Maui

An original palette knife oil painting of one of my favorite spots on Maui known as Secret Beach and also known in Hawaiian as Pa'ako which means "point". This beach is located on Maui's south shore near Makena beach. It's a popular spot for weddings and photography. Several weddings were held while I was there painting en plein air. The island in the distance is Kaho'olawe. The red strokes of paint mark the iron rich lava interspersed with the green strokes of foliage. I used multiple hues of blue, green and violet to depict reef. This painting looks almost abstract from a close distance, as you step further back, the luscious strokes of paint merge together to reveal the beautiful seascape that it is.
