After Mismaloya
This piece is a tribute to the Mexican resort Mismaloya, near Puerto Vallarta, where the jungle and mountains are close to the sea and sunset is paradise.

A tropical paradise told in rich, thick impasto, Judith Skillman’s "After Mismaloya" is a beautiful work that employs abstraction and figuration to describe a perfect moment at dusk when the sunlight's last rays up the soon-to-be dark stary sky. Besides the thick impasto, expertly mixed pigment, and brilliant brushstrokes, "After Mismaloya" holds a special significance for me. I am very familiar with the awe-inspiring sunsets of Puerto Vallarta and the beachside towns. I moved to a small coastal village 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta a few months ago. Like Skillman, I moved from a freezing and dark winter to a balmy shoreside and was most enamored with how the land and ocean great each other. It is a place where the jungle and sea meet, where green palm trees and dense foliage give way to crashing ocean waves. "After Mismaloya" is a stunning rendering of one of the most beautiful places in the world and the perfect complement to any wall.

Thanks, John. I live in cold spring (Newcastle, WA) and do wish I were in Mismaloya. We have visited five times over the past twenty years. I am beyond honored by your critique. Please enjoy a margarita at dusk!
