Headscarf in Argenta
On a bike ride through the downtown area of North Little Rock Arkansas one afternoon late winter / early spring, I saw a woman trekking across the area wearing a headscarf. Something you don't see everyday. Anymore. I had taken some photos of a body shop in the area a while back and was looking for some excuse to use the shadow of the power workings on the building. So I put my memory of her in front of the cinder and metal structure. I felt it needed something in the foreground and remembered her shielding her eyes from the detritus blowing around that day.
I built the work around this woman's feeling of vulnerability. Her hand was shielding her from in more ways than one. I have worked on using backgrounds, foregrounds, mid grounds, patterns, colors, lines, skies, anything that might be present in the painting to work with the internal feeling of the subject.
