Yellow #1

Having already written about joseph piccillo’s Orange 1, I’ve tried to restrain myself from delving back into his other brilliant color studies too quickly, but I can wait no longer. Yellow #1 is a beautiful and alluring painterly investigation of my third favorite color (orange and blue still reign supreme) told in rich acrylic. The subtle gradations of vibrant yellows provide a tonal balance that draws in the viewer. A visual feast made up of the simplest but most expertly arranged ingredients, Yellow #1 will brighten up the darkest room and challenge the sunlight in the brightest one. The present work’s solar effect is so palpable that going unaware of its presence is as impossible as ignoring the sun on a bright summer’s day.
