Hand To Head
For some reason this photo of a friend of mine I took several years ago stuck in my head. I did sketches three times over the last few years. Finally found a setting that clicked with me. A beautiful June sunset, out on the street after dinner at a restaurant. I knew the shirt was blue and the sunset was yellow. Everything else played off of that to give me a feeling of compositional balance.
The background / setting is somewhat cubistized. Stylized to maximize my enjoyment. When I started I didn't realize that the left arm would play so large a role. But I loved laying layer after layer to get to the right texture.
