Orange 1
" Orange #1 " a contemporary abstract painting by joseph piccillo is a modern color field palette knife acrylic on museum stretched canvas 24 x 24 inches. Orange is a color I find very pleasing. Maybe because i loved cream sickles when i was a kid.I must confess at 76 i still do.

With its subtle yet pronounced gradations of color, joseph piccillo’s "Orange 1" is an alluring painting with a presence that lights up a room. I have a deep-seated love for orange; it's bright and loud with a synthetic quality that is belied and complemented by the natural appearance of the sunset’s afterglow. There is a versatility to orange that sets it apart from its tonal counterparts: basically, there is no wall that it does not compliment. Blues are often swallowed by dark walls, and so too with blacks, greens, and purples. Orange always pops. My preference would be orange on a flat white wall, but dark, loud, and light colors all bring out the tonal punch of excited orange (or, perhaps, the orange is doing all the work and the other colors are just along for the ride). "Orange 1" is a pure investigation of color, one of the key foundations of all visual art.
