Chromatically brilliant, enigmatic, and richly detailed, Lois Gold’s Pentimento lies somewhere in-between the gilded canvases of Gustave Klimt and summer field of lilacs, verdure grass, and bright sunflowers. The bold, thick applications of impasto and brilliantly mixed pigment draw the viewer into every nook and cranny of the composition. The more delicate washes of watercolor complement the vivid acrylic. The absence of discernible brushstrokes lends the painting an organic appearance as if it was never touched by human hands. Pentimento is a painting to get lost in; to let wash over you; to succumb to. It takes over one's senses not by overpowering them but by igniting them. It cannot be described in words or memory but only through direct interaction. No two viewers will see the same thing, and no viewer will see the same thing twice because there is no repetition, but only nuance.
