Clairvoyant

An exploration of extrasensory ability and clear-sightedness, the Clairvoyant sees people and events that are distant in time or space.

Currently my work is exploring contemporary collage and how disparate parts can come together and form a meaningful sum even though each expresses its own story. Mostly works on paper in which I begin by making random marks and smears in oil with palette knives. As these seemingly abstract compositions dry I watch them daily and begin to notice somewhat figurative forms within them that reveal to me how a portrait could be made. I then make many drawings and paintings of faces and facial parts in graphite, pen, Epson prints, colored pencil, pastel, Ebony pencil, charcoal and Woody Pencils. These are made on random types of paper. I then tear and cut these drawn faces and glue them on top of the abstractions I first created on paper. Through a purely intuitive process I draw and paint to make finished "inside-out portraits."
