Dogtown Stare
Dogtown is what used to be a derogatory term for North Little Rock. But NLR has taken the term and turned it into a positive thing.
I bike down in the old downtown section of North Little Rock, Argenta. There's a worn and dated feel to a lot of the homes and businesses there. I find myself stopping on a dime and pulling out my phone to take a quick pic or something there. That sky and those houses. I sketched out some portraits of people I had taken in the last however many years and found that one that really worked. My plan was to line up the directional graphic of the clouds with the subjects eyeline. I often try to express a subject's interior state through the setting. Sometimes subtly. Sometimes not so much.
