Vanitas

This piece was inspired by the traditional vanitas paintings of 17th century Netherlands. The classic still life vanitas paintings were symbolic representations of the transience of life and the inevitability of change. They were often composed of objects chosen to represent various earthly values, i.e. flowers for youth, nature and beauty, gold for wealth. My "Vanitas" is an abstract one. I want to recognize the fleeting, ephemeral nature of existence. In so doing I reinforce my intention to appreciate and celebrate my joy.
